What We Do
Master Gardener Volunteers are trained through the University of Florida/IFAS Extension to share research-based solutions with the community. Our volunteers can:

  • Help you create a Florida-Friendly Landscape
  • Diagnose plant diseases and insect problems
  • Offer eco-friendly solutions and prevention tips
  • Assist with plant identification and selection
  • Support school and community gardens
  • Provide educational programs, articles, and plant clinics

Who Are Master Gardener Volunteers?
The Florida Master Gardener Volunteer title is awarded to individuals who complete UF/IFAS training and volunteer service hours. These dedicated volunteers work alongside Extension Agents to educate the public on planning and maintaining urban, suburban, and rural landscapes—with a strong focus on environmental stewardship.

 

Mission: To assist Extension Agents in providing research-based horticultural education to Florida residents.
Vision: To be the most trusted resource for horticultural education in Florida.

 

Services We Provide
Ask a Master Gardener Volunteer – Help desk support by phone, email, or in-person
Speakers Bureau – Presentations for clubs, schools, libraries, and community groups
Plant Clinics – Hands-on assistance with plant problems
Youth Education – Support for 4-H and school gardens
Community Engagement – Articles, blogs, newsletters, and community garden projects

 

Interested in Becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer?
Training runs from late summer through fall, on Wednesdays each year. Participants learn about soils, botany, plant pathology, entomology, vegetable gardening, plant identification, and more.

Cost: $220 (includes textbooks and materials). Limited scholarships may be available.
Requirements: Interest in gardening, willingness to learn, and a desire to share knowledge. New volunteers serve 75 hours in the first year, then renew annually with 10 learning hours and 35 volunteer hours.
