Title | Event: Bird Talk & Tour: Purple Martins | Location | Location: Green Cay Nature Center | Start Time | Start Date/Time: Saturday, March 28, 2026 9:30:00 AM |
Description | Start the day off with a bird presentation looking specifically at the birds of our wetlands. This is a special Bird Talk & Tour session where we will have Shelly Rozenberg, Purple Martin Conservation Coordinator from Audubon Everglades, present on Purple Martins!
Purple Martins are one of North America’s most loved birds for many reasons; their chattering song, social antics, aerial acrobatics and insect-eating habits. Long ago, Native Americans hung up hollowed-out gourds to attract nesting Purple Martins. Today, they are dependent on the hospitality of human landlords for their survival in the East. No other species has its fate intertwined with humans as Purple Martins do. Learn about the life cycle of these long-distance migrants, their unique relationship with people and conservation efforts in Palm Beach County.
Followed by an outside tour of the gourd racks where our Purple Martin colonies live and interpretation. Bring binoculars and your field guide if you have them!
All ages. $5 per person. Reservation required. Sign up here! |
