Commissioner Gregg K. Weiss, a retired business executive from California, was elected to the District 2 seat of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners in November 2018 and was reelected in 2022.
Gregg serves on a variety of boards locally, statewide and nationally.
He has several priorities:
- Gregg believes in technology that works for the people. He’s been spearheading efforts to expand access to high-speed internet; he led a national committee looking into how local governments can use AI in a responsible and ethical manner; and he serves on an Advisory Board for the Federal Communications Commission.
- Promoting water supply and water quality and protecting sensitive ecosystems such as the Lake Worth Lagoon are among his top priorities. He currently chairs the Water Resources Task Force and the Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative Steering Committee.
- Gregg has been leading the fight against bigotry and hatred— speaking up against all forms of hate and spearheading a local ordinance addressing vandalism, property and hate crimes.
- Bolstering mental health is another priority for Gregg, so he works on improving access to services for those in need. This includes expanding mental health court in Palm Beach County.
- Gregg promotes economic development that supports well-paying jobs. As a believer in being a good steward of your taxpayer dollars, he worked to reduce the property tax rate in 2022 and 2023 and often speaks out against wasteful spending.
Prior to his election to the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, Gregg served as vice chair of the West Palm Beach Planning Board and on numerous other boards of area organizations and nonprofits.
Gregg was born and raised in Southern California. After graduating from the University of California at Irvine with degrees in economics and social ecology, he made a career in the then-emerging computer industry. He worked his way up to becoming a business executive overseeing sales, marketing and strategy for several Fortune 500 companies both in the U.S. and Australia.
Gregg and Rebecca, his wife of more than 30 years, retired while in their 40s and decided to sail the world on their 50-foot boat named Kimba. They anchored in the Lake Worth Lagoon in 2004 and made West Palm Beach their new home.
Active in the community as a volunteer and board member, Gregg was president of the West
Palm Beach Police Foundation and a founding member of Speak Up for Kids. Gregg is a member of Temple Israel.
