Michael A. Barnett is originally from Queens, New York, but has lived in Palm Beach County since 1987 after having lived in Puerto Rico for a year and a half. A lawyer practicing since 2007, Michael was recently appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners on January 5, 2023, representing Commission District 3. The district consists of Greenacres, Lake Worth Beach, Lake Clarke Shores, Palm Springs, Cloud Lake, Glen Ridge, as well as portions of unincorporated Palm Beach County.
As commissioner, Michael, is assigned to serve on the Criminal Justice Commission, the Value Adjustment Board, the Governing Board of the Solid Waste Authority, as well as the Environmental Commission. Michael was recently appointed by Governor DeSantis as a member of the Florida Medical Examiners Commission.
Michael is a personal injury attorney with the Shiner Law Group, where he has worked since 2017. He graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 2007, the University of South Florida in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, and Palm Beach State College with an associate of arts degree in 2002.
Michael's professional memberships and admissions include the Florida Bar, the U.S. Southern District of Florida, the U.S. Middle District of Florida, the Palm Beach Bar Association, the South Palm Beach County Bar Association, the Federalist Society, and the Craig S. Barnard American Inn of Court. He is also member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree.
