Riverbend Park offers educational programs for school groups Tuesday through Friday, based on availability. Naturalists may use live animals, models, biofacts, and other fun materials to teach programs about Florida’s native wildlife, conservation, and recreation! We can accommodate up to 60 participants per day. We can offer multiple program days for those groups that exceed the daily maximum capacity. All programs are 90 minutes in length unless otherwise noted. Programs are run outdoors, so closed-toe shoes, drinking water, and sun protection are recommended.
Activities promote environmental and historical awareness, conservation, and recreation.
Pioneer History- Grades 3-8:
Through a guided tour, along with interaction and observation, participants will be able to compare and contrast old and modern Florida and learn how technology has impacted both the people and the land.
Seminole War History- Grades 3-8:
Through a guided tour and presentations by our partner group, the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists, students learn about the Second Seminole War and the battles that occurred here at Loxahatchee Battlefield Park.
Slither and Scales: Exploring Reptiles and Amphibians - Grades K-8:
Learn about the differences between reptiles and amphibians with the help of live animals, biofacts, and visuals. A guided tour of our trails is included as we search for some wild examples of reptiles and amphibians.
South Florida Animals- Grades K-8:
Explore South Florida wildlife with a presentation including live animals, biofacts, and visuals. Participants also take a guided tour on our trails through different habitats and learn about native plants and animals.
Wetland Wonders: Dipnetting Adventures- Grades 3-8:
Learn about the different types of wetlands and how they are important to both animals and humans. Participants will also discover the underwater world by dipnetting for aquatic organisms to study and release. Please wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet/muddy.
Secret Life of Plants: Grades K-8:
Dive into the wonderful world of plants, focusing on southern Florida’s native plant species including common wild flowers, trees, and shrubs. Through a guided walk and bio-facts participants will learn the different parts of the plant, skills to better identify plants in the wild, and knowledge of many native plant species we have in Florida.
Reservations
To book a program, complete a
Program Reservation Request Form and email it to riverbendpark@pbc.gov or drop it off at the park office. Once we receive your request, you will be contacted and scheduled. Please allow up to three business days for staff to contact you regarding your request. We will then confirm your program in writing with a confirmation/invoice letter. One payment is due for the whole group by the date of the program and accepted as cash or check. In addition, waivers must be signed by each participant and/or guardian if under the age of 18. - Programs include one free chaperone (staff/parent) for every 10 paying children. Additional adults must pay the program fee.
- There is a $30 minimum program charge.
- We can only accommodate a maximum of 3 classes (or 60 students) per day. Please request multiple dates if needed.
