‘Surf the
Net—About a Pet’
Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control has an easy way for residents to look for the right pet to adopt or to find lost pets.
SNAP, a pet identification program, is available at
www.pbcgov.com/SNAP.
Pre-Adoption Program:
In order to place more homeless pets into loving homes, we are now accepting pre-adoption applications for the dogs in our stray-holding kennel. All pre-adoptions are regular price - $60 adult dogs, $75 puppies - and non-refundable.
To place a pre-adoption:
- You must come to the shelter.
- Be approved for adoption and pay the adoption fee.
- Wait for the stray hold to be finished (minimum 4 days).
- Adoption is only finalized if the owner does not come in to redeem the pet within the designated stray hold period.
- All pets will be spayed or neutered before going to their adoptive home.
Please note: refunds will not be given in the event the dog is redeemed by its original owner. You will have the option to select another pet or you will be issued an adoption voucher valid for use within six months.
Between 45-50 stray pets are dropped off at Palm Beach County's Animal Care and Control each day from all over the county. If you have lost your pet, you should go directly to the county shelter to look for your lost dog or cat in the stray/reclaim kennels.
Pet owners are asked to visit the shelter to complete a lost report and identify their lost pet. You may describe your pet as a brown hound mix, Animal Care and Control staff may describe the same animal as a tan shepherd mix.
Stray animals are held for a limited time before they are placed in the adoption program, so it is important that the pet owner look for their lost pet every few days when the shelter is open.
THINGS PET OWNERS SHOULD DO:
Pet owners are asked to visit the shelter to complete a lost report and identify their lost pet. Lost reports can also be completed on-line.
