The Contractor Regulation Section enforces contractor compliance with the State of Florida and local county regulations. County contractors are required to be certified licensed and insured.
WHY HIRE A LICENSED CONTRACTOR?
It’s the law!
- A licensed person has the required education, experience, insurance and qualifications to obtain a license.
- They must pass a competency examination before practicing.
- Regulating Authorities can discipline and even revoke a license if the person lacks professional standards.
- Problems can occur after unlicensed work that may not be covered by homeowners insurance.
- Only homeowners and qualified contractors can pull permits.
- Qualified contractors should be up to date on building codes.
TIPS FOR HIRING A LICENSED CONTRACTOR
- Obtain refences and a written contract
- Verify their license and insurance (click here). An occupational license does not
- qualify as a contractor license
- Make sure a permit is pulled (if applicable - click here)
- If you want to pay your contractor cash - get a reciept
- Do not make final payment until permit is closed out
- Beware of newspaper/flyer ads, which do not include the individual's or company’s
- contractor license number
- Unable to provide a copy of their certificate of insurance.
