About Us

The County Attorney’s Office was established under Section 4.3 of the Palm Beach County Charter as an independent office. The County Attorney’s Office provides legal counsel and advice on a regular basis on all matters concerning the operation of the County to the Board of County Commissioners and all County Departments/Divisions, regulatory boards and advisory boards, and also the Solid Waste Authority. Legal services include the drafting and reviewing of ordinances and legislation; instituting and defending civil actions at all levels of State and Federal courts, and coordinating legal services in areas requiring unique specialization. The County Attorney is not legal counsel to the general public and may not advise individual citizens.

Obtaining Outside Counsel
At times, the County Attorney’s Office requires the assistance of outside counsel in specialized areas. Generally, outside counsel is obtained through a Request for Proposal (RFP) advertised through the local newspaper or other relevant publication, depending on the services needed. RFPs are sent to attorneys who are prequalified in certain practice areas. If you are an attorney who desires to be placed on the RFP list as a prequalified expert, please complete and submit the Attorney Qualification Information Form.
