Palm Beach County encompasses 1974.11 square miles and is composed of 38 incorporated municipalities. Within the county there are over 3,100 landscape management companies, nearly 500 nurseries, approximately 200 golf courses, almost 50 public recreational parks, as well as many recreational facilities and public "green" spaces.   These various entities employ thousands of workers and have a substantial influence on the local environment through their horticultural practices and direct contact with the county's residents.

Palm Beach County Extension provides educational programming and diagnostic services to help these firms remain competitive, to keep current with the latest research and technology, and to operate in ways that are environmentally appropriate.
