Hospital Reporting Directive Dashboard – Defined Metrics
- Total staffed hospital beds -
Defined: Licensed and physically available with staff on hand to attend patient.
- Current Staffed General Acute Care beds (not including OB, Pediatric, or Specialty/Rehab beds) –
Defined: Beds available for patients who do not require intensive care
- Current staffed inventory of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds for:
- Adult -
Defined: beds supporting critically ill patients, including patients with or without ventilator support
- Pediatric -
Defined: beds supporting critically ill/injured patients 17 years or younger, including patients with or without ventilator support
- Total number of unused beds that can be converted to ICU beds -
Defined: acute care bed that that can be converted to support critically ill patients, including patients with or without ventilator support
- Total number of ventilators in hospital inventory (whether in use or not) –
Defined: number of devices used to support, assist or control respiration through the applicationof positive pressure to the airway when delivered via an artificial airway

Defined: Total patient census including suspected and lab confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to general, isolation or ICU beds, and all overflow & surge/expansion beds with patients
- Adult – 18 years or older
- Pediatric – 17 years or younger
- Total COVID-19 positive patients in ICU beds for:
Defined: Total patient census including suspected and lab confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to ICU
- Adult - 18 years or older
- Pediatric - 17 years or younger
- Total COVID-19 positive patients on a ventilator –
Defined: Total number of patients currently hospitalized in an inpatient bed who have suspected, or lab confirmed COVID-19 and are on a mechanical ventilator at the time of report.
- New COVID-19 positive patients admitted since the prior day’s reporting –
Defined: the number of patients admitted to an inpatient bed the previous calendar day who had confirmed COVID-19 at the time of admission.
- COVID-19 positive patients discharged since the prior day’s reporting-
Defined: the number of COVID-19 positive patients that leaves the hospital and either returns home or is transferred to another facility
- Total COVID-19 positive transfers in accepted -
Defined: The total number of COVID-19 positive patients transferred from one acute care medical facility to another acute care medical facility
- Total COVID-19 positive transfers out for –
Defined: The total number of COVID-19 positive patients transferred from one acute care medical facility to another acute caremedical facility

- Emergency department (ED) bed holds –
Defined: number of ED patients placed in a temporary holding area that already have a disposition (admission, transfer, OR, discharge) but cannot be accommodated due to a lack of inpatient beds, OR availability, or discharge issues such as locating a responsible caretaker.
- If available, the number of COVID-19 positive patients admitted who were fully vaccinated (two weeks post final dose)
- If available, the number of COVID-19 positive patients admitted who were unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated (not yet two weeks post final dose)
These metrics will be evaluated and refined and adjustments may be made in the future.
