Recovery Section Readiness
The Recovery Section defines how the Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management will more effectively organize and operate to utilize existing resources to promote effective recovery from a disaster. The Recovery Section components includes the Individual Assistance Program, Public Assistance Program, 406 Hazard Mitigation Program, Post Disaster Redevelopment Plan (PDRP), Community Rating System, Agricultural Pests and Diseases Hazard Specific Plan, and the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) compliance.
The Recovery Section also works to maximize disaster assistance to eligible public entities, individuals and families through various state and federal disaster assistance programs as authorized by the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.
Individuals and families need to apply for assistance through the
FEMA Individual Assistance Program. Affected individuals and businesses can apply for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) telephone registration process using the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) (TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing impaired). Once the registration is complete, a copy of the registration/application will be sent to the applicant and if a need is identified, an inspector will be assigned to view the damaged property.
Public Entities (cities, counties and certain private non-profits that provide services of a governmental nature) may be eligible for assistance through
FEMA Public Assistance Grant Program. Public Assistance grants reimburse eligible expenses to remove debris, protect life, health and safety as well as rebuild damaged infrastructure. If a Presidential Disaster Declaration is approved, a briefing is held in Palm Beach County to assist potential applicants in qualifying for the Public Assistance Grant Program. Potential applicants can find out when briefings are scheduled and apply for Public Assistance through the State of Florida’s Public Assistance web portal at
FloridaPA.org or may contact Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management.
It is important that affected individuals and businesses stay informed, through press releases and public service announcements of filing deadlines and program requirements to retain their eligibility for programs that are available to assist them in their recovery efforts.
