Timeline for Decision/Actions
Frequently Asked Questions:
Does it make a difference if I own or rent?
If you rent or lease your offices or facilities you may not have complete control of your timeline. Your landlord or property manager may have a timeline that you must factor into your plan. You should make sure that there is a clear and complete understanding of your respective plans and responsibilities. On the other hand, if you own your property, the timeline will be under your control. Make sure your disaster plan includes a comprehensive list of the decisions you will have to make, the actions you will take and when you will take them.
How do I determine when to take action?
As a general rule of thumb, if you have made your preseason preparations, your timeline for decisions and actions should begin when the storm is about 72 hours from predicted landfall in your area. The time line form provides examples for actions to be taken at 72,48,36,30 and 24 hours prior to the storm. Check those examples that apply to your business. Blank spaces are provided for decisions and actions that are unique to your business.
