Job Description
Palm Beach County’s Division of Built Environment Risk Reduction (BERR) works to ensure resilience and sustainability initiatives that strengthen county infrastructure and community preparedness. BERR focuses on public safety, infrastructure protection, energy efficiency, and reducing climate-related risks. The BERR intern will join a small, innovative, passionate team to support program and policy development for a large county government.   

Intern Activities

  • Communications (50%)
    • Develop content for social media, press releases, and presentations.
    • Outreach through tabling events.
  • Project Support (20%)
    • Assist in the development of workshops and meetings hosted by BERR
  • Research (20%)
    • Research and analyze resilience and infrastructure technical reports and articles.
    • Support BERR Analysts with program-specific research needs. 
  • Administrative Support (10%)
    • Perform general office tasks that include scanning files, making copies, and scheduling meetings. 
    • Assist with travel logistics and reimbursements. 
    • Assist in event setup and breakdown. 


Knowledge, Ability, and Skills

Required

  • Experience with social media management and content creation.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. Superb grammar.
  • Strong research and analysis skills.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision while also being an effective team collaborator.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook, and videoconferencing.
  • Currently enrolled in College or recently graduated from college.

Preferred

  • Ability to occasionally attend evening and weekend events.
  • Passion for resilience, public safety, infrastructure protection, public health, and/or community engagement.
  • Coursework, leadership experience, and/or career goals in sustainability, community engagement, environmental science, environmental law, land use planning, architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience writing newsletters, and familiarity with Constant Contact, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.


Candidate Requirements

  • Must be able to work on-site. This is not a remote position. 
  • Work at least 15 hours per week.
  • Personal vehicle is not required, though the student is responsible for getting to and from the office location and occasional off-site events. A valid driver’s license is required. A Florida driver’s license is preferred. 


Benefits
This position will pay $14 per hour. Alternatively, BERR welcomes the opportunity to work with students and their academic institutions to obtain course credit.
