USACE Modification Bonefish Cove Restoration

  • The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) completed the contract modification for the original project design, resulting in two islands with accompanying oyster reefs. 
  • One island with oyster reefs located to the north and another island with oyster reefs to the south, leaving the middle portion between the islands unaffected.  
  • The contractor working on the project continues to deliver and stockpile sand concurrently at the north and south island locations. 
  • Wavebreak and oyster reef construction on the north portion of the project will be commencing soon.

When completed the islands and oyster reefs will provide critical habitat for threatened shorebirds and protected native mangroves, wh​ile below water seagrass and oysters will colonize, improving water quality.
