Bonefish Cove Island Restoration Project Update

Body

Bonefish Cove Habitat Restoration
Project Update July 2025
  • For ease of discussion, the Project and its components have been divided into a northern section and a southern section. Each section is comprised of one island, one bird nesting mound, multiple oyster reefs, a submerged seagrass shelf and red mangrove habitat. The area between the north and south sections is being left open in its existing state.
  • North Section
  • The majority of the work is taking place on the north island.  The contractor is delivering the last amount of sand needed along the southern extent to finish forming the submerged seagrass shelf and oyster reef areas. They have staged the limestone rock to finish building the remaining wavebreak around the island and continue building the oyster reefs to the south.
  • South Section
  • The contractor has stopped delivering and stockpiling sand to this section of the project and is concentrating on finishing up the north section of the project. Once they finish the northern section of the project, they will repeat the process to the south.
