We are happy to announce that our campground is open! Please contact the campground office at 561-992-9045 or 877-992-9915, or email us at SBCamp@pbc.gov to begin making your reservation.

When you call to make your reservation, some of the information we’ll ask for includes:

• RV License Plate Number

• Alternate Cell Phone

• Emergency Name and Contact Number

• Driver License Number of Person Named on Reservation

• RV Registration Expiration Date

• RVIA (or Equivalent Organization) Seal Number

NOTE: The RVIA, or Recreational Vehicle Industry Association, seal is an oval emblem located on the outside of your RV to the left of the entrance door. It certifies that your RV has been manufactured in compliance with standards for Recreational Vehicles in the areas of Electrical, Plumbing, Heating and Fire Safety.

We understand that some of you may be impacted by COVID-19 related travel restrictions and find that you will need to change your reservations with us. Please know that we understand and will do our best to work with you to find a solution that meets your needs. Also, we want to let you know that in an effort to protect the health of you and our campground staff, we are accepting payments by credit card only.

South Bay RV Campground is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Located in South-Central Florida in the heart of sugar cane country, the campground serves as the perfect layover spot for visitors passing through or a wonderful vacation alternative to Florida’s bustling coastal areas.

This peaceful RV park is nestled at the base of the levee on the southeast shore of Lake Okeechobee. This picturesque setting provides habitat for many of Florida’s native plants and animals including many endangered species. Fishermen and boaters enjoy easy access to Lake Okeechobee by using the boat ramp located across the street from the campground. Nature lovers enjoy hiking, biking, and bird watching on the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail located on top of the levee just a short stroll from the campground. This beautiful campground is the perfect place to start your exploration of the Sunshine State!

About the Region

Everglades

Much of the land south of Lake Okeechobee is part of the Everglades ecosystem. This “river of grass” is a national environmental treasure and is home to a unique diversity of rare plants and animals. This amazing resource is a wonderful place for recreation and exploration.

Lake Okeechobee

The second largest freshwater lake wholly contained within the United States, second only to Lake Michigan, Lake Okeechobee covers 730 square miles and is approximately 37 miles long by 30 miles wide with an average depth of 9 feet. The lake derives its name from the Seminole words “oki” and “chubi” meaning “big water.”

Herbert Hoover Dike

The Herbert Hoover Dike was built in the 1930s as a result of the devastation and loss of over 2,500 lives in the hurricanes of 1926 and 1928. It completely surrounds Lake Okeechobee to protect the region from flooding and storm damage during severe hurricanes. Built and maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the 35’ tall structure consists of gravel, rock, limestone, sand and shell.
